Ch'ang Hon Taekwon-do Hae Sul Real Applications To The ITF Patterns - Vols 1& 2
Volume 1 - This ground breaking first book studies the history and development of the Ch'ang Hon (ITF) Taekwon-do patterns as devised, taught and developed by the founder of Taekwon-do General Choi, Hong Hi. Ch'ang Hon Taekwon-do Hae Sul is an in-depth study of the Ch'ang Hon Taekwon-do patterns, their history, their roots, Taekwon-do's evolution, its genetic make up, its differences with other martial arts and the techniques and movements which define the system, detailing for the first time since its inception, realistic interpretations for the patterns Chon-Ji, Dan-Gun, Do-San, Won-Hyo, Yul-Gok, Joong-Gun and Toi-Gye, as well as Saju Jirugi and Saju Makgi. Over 17 chapters, covering over 350 pages, with over 1,600 photographs, the patterns are examined, dissected and rebuilt to help both students and instructors understand the applications that are really contained within the Ch'ang Hon patterns, many of which were previously unknown and undocumented. Learn what the techniques and combinations of each of the Ch'ang Hon patterns are actually for, in step by step photographic detail, and how to turn your patterns into a realistic way of training actual self defence techniques that work and turn them into something much more than they are practiced today. Along the way, the reader is treated to a fascinating insight into the history of the Ch'ang Hon patterns as well as Taekwon-do itself, with many of its previously unknown, undocumented or understudied principles revealed. Read what helped to shape the art which became so feared on the battlefield of Vietnam that enemy soldiers were told not to engage the Korean soldiers, whether armed or not, due to their knowledge of Taekwon-do. A historical study of Taekwon-do and its patterns, a training manual and an encyclopedia of realistic applications make this book a must read for all those that study and practice Taekwon-do. A milestone for the development of Taekwon-do.

Volume 2 continues where the ground breaking Vol. 1 left off. In Vol. 2 the senior patterns of the Ch’ang Hon System up to 2nd Dan, have gone through the same in-depth analysis as the lower grade patterns originally did, with each one having been examined, dissected and rebuilt to help the student of Taekwon-do to understand what is really contained within the patterns we practice in Taekwon-do. Patterns Hwa-Rang, Choong-Moo, Kwang-Gae, Po-Eun, Ge-Baek, Eui-Am, Choong-Jang, Ko-Dang and Juche have been examined in-depth to find more realistic applications for their movements - based upon what the author refers to as their ‘DNA’. In this volume, even the ready postures and stances have been examined and the results are documented in step by step photographic detail, using over 2,200 photographs. Comprising of over 350 pages, this book not only shows more realistic applications to the Red Belt, 1st Dan and 2nd Dan patterns, but also explains how it is possible to achieve these applications in the first place, why General Choi, Hong Hi, the founder of Ch’ang Hon Taekwon-do couldn't make the same conclusions, as well as expelling a falsehood that has been with Taekwon-Do since its inception! After reading this book, the patterns of Taekwon-do no longer seem just a collection of movements, performed in a dance like fashion for competitions or gradings, but become realistic techniques that can actually be utilised as real world self defence applications - making this a must read companion to Vol. 1, for all students who study and practice Taekwon-do.
ALL-IN FIGHTING
The author of this concise guide to unarmed combat and self-defence is a legend. W. E. Fairbairn (1885-1960) spent over thirty years in the tough environment of the Riot Squads of China's Shanghai Municipal Police. In order to lower levels of Police mortality at the hands of Chinese Tongs, he studied ancient Chinese and Japanese martial arts, including Ju-jitsu, and was the first foreigner to be awarded a black belt in the discipline. He developed his own system which he called 'Defendu'. At the outbreak of the Second World War, he was recruited by Britain's Special Operations Executive as an Instructor in unarmed combat and expounded the deadly mysteries of attack and defence to scores of trainee agents about to be dropped into occupied Europe. His methods were approved and officially adopted throughout the British army. Fairbairn also developed weapons and defence aids such as bullet proof vests. He is best known as the co-inventor of the famous Sykes-Fairbairn knife. In this book he expounds his distilled experience of unarmed combat. Fully illustrated, it shows how to deliver deadly blows with hand, fist, knee and boot; wrist, bear- and strangle holds (and how to break them); how to throw an enemy, and how to break their backs; how to disarm a pistol-wielding attacker; and securing a prisoner. The book also contains a chapter on the use of the rifle in close combat by Captain P. N. Walbridge. Please note: Whilst this is not a Tae Kwon Do book per se, it comes very highly rated by all those involved with Self Defence
